Every year the battle between sedans gets hotter as features get added and functionality improves. For 2017 models, drivers have a wide range of choices that can tailor to just as wide a range of needs. Choosing from dollar-saving budget models or top-of-the-line luxury is becoming less clear, as the better models are less expensive and the less pricey options have more built into them than ever. In recent years, the Volkswagen Jetta has been a rising star in popularity, as it combines efficiency and quality with extremely competitive pricing. It is an ultimate all-around vehicle, with plenty of space for passengers and cargo, excellent performance and efficiency for commuting and travel and a full complement of amenities to make sure every drive is always a genuine pleasure.

Interior Features

Volkswagen has always prided itself on the driving experience. Standard features on the Jetta are comprehensive, including power seats, heated and cooled seats, leatherette upholstery, keyless ignition and satellite radio. They also assist driving with destination download, roadside assistance and parking assistance, all of which are also standard. The Accord comes with none of these on the base model, but with upgrades, everything but destination download and roadside assistance can be added. Considering the difference in starting prices, drivers are clearly getting more value for their dollar with the Jetta in terms of driving and passenger experience.

Safety

Both cars score identically in crash tests and safety ratings. In fact, it’s difficult to find a modern sedan that doesn’t rate extremely well in every category. The major differences come from tracking and notifications. Airbag deployment notifications, emergency services, stolen vehicle tracking and automatic crash responses are only available on the Jetta. Conversely, the Accord has an exclusive anti-theft device that is not available with Volkswagen. Comparing the two, neither car is clearly safer to drive, but the Jetta wins across the board in crash response.

Value

The Jetta and Accord rate extremely close in passenger and cargo space, and they have comparable engines. While they are clearly marketed to the same groups, the difference is starting price is staggering. Base-line Jetta have a starting price more than 20 percent lower than the Accord, and they include more features without upgrades. When you add in the fact that the Jetta has better gas mileage, it’s easy to see that the Jetta holds more overall value. The Jetta also sees better Bluebook value as a function of its original price, making the value comparison a surprisingly easy contest to call.
