2015 Volkswagen Beetle vs 2015 MINI Cooper
Serving Tallahassee, Quincy, FL & Valdosta, Thomasville, Bainbridge, GA
The Volkswagen Beetle has always maintained a loyal fan base. Although the iconic hatchback has changed quite a bit over the years, it is still among the most beloved vehicles on the market. Equipped with a powerful base engine, the 2015 Volkswagen Beetle promises to keep you excited for the entire ride. Drivers will also benefit from the Beetle’s excellent safety rating.
Like the new Beetle, the MINI Cooper is also a strong contender in the hatchback segment. There are quite a few drivers who will like its creative design. Take a look at how these two unique vehicles compare to each other.
Performance
Volkswagen stepped up the Beetle’s performance by installing a more potent base engine. The turbocharged 1.8-liter, four-cylinder engine pumps out an engaging 170 horsepower and 184 pound- feet of torque. With a total output of only 134 horsepower and 162 pound-feet of torque, the MINI Cooper has far less strength under the hood. According to Edmunds, the Beetle's engine proves to be smooth and powerful. The Beetle’s extra torque makes it a breeze to drive on a day-to-day basis. While the MINI Cooper is not a weak performer, its tiny engine gives it a noticeable disadvantage. Keep in mind that the MINI Cooper's engine requires the use of premium unleaded fuel. Fortunately, Volkswagen tuned the Beetle to develop full power using regular gas.
Safety
For good reason, a lot of today's car shoppers demand a high level of safety. The 2015 VW Beetle definitely provides excellent crash protection. Not only did the Beetle earn a five-star safety rating from the federal government, but it also comes standard with a convenient Car-Net emergency response system. If you experience a problem while behind the wheel, the Car-Net system enables you to immediately contact roadside assistance. The system also enables parents to keep tabs on their teen driver. Unfortunately, the MINI Cooper does not offer a similar safety system. Furthermore, the tiny hatchback was only able to obtain a four-star safety rating.
Interior
The VW Beetle’s interior has an extremely high-quality character. Even tall drivers will love the Beetle’s overall comfort. However, the VW Beetle truly shines when it comes to trunk space. There is more than 15 cubic feet of cargo room behind the rear seats. Meanwhile, the two-door MINI Cooper only provides a disappointing 8.7 cubic feet of room behind the backseat. If you decide to take a family road trip, the extra luggage space will definitely come in handy.
Despite the MINI Cooper’s competitive nature, it is still not able to overtake the legendary Volkswagen Beetle. The Beetle’s strong performance and excellent crash protection give it a leg up on the competition. Onlookers are bound to fall in love with the hatchback's retro styling. If you are interested in taking the 2015 VW Beetle for a spin, be sure to stop by your local Volkswagen dealer.
